On the 5th of December, OWIS Osaka hosted its very first Experience Day dedicated to our Secondary School programme. We were delighted to welcome so many families to the campus ✨
Under the guidance of our Secondary School Science teacher, Mr Ben, students explored plant and animal cells using microscopes, experiencing first-hand the IB approach to learning — one that encourages independent thinking, curiosity, and inquiry 🔬🌱
Many families shared how the session helped them better understand what learning in OWIS Osaka Secondary School looks like, and how engaged and curious their children were throughout the experience 😊

Winter Camp 2025 was a resounding success! ❄️
It was a fantastic week, packed with smiles and wonderful memories for our students ⛄️
Just like last year, we headed out on an excursion to Mt. Rokko Snow Park 🚌
After having fun playing in the snow and sledging, everyone tucked into a delicious curry lunch.
Of course, there was plenty of action back on campus too!
We had stop-motion movie making, arts & crafts, cooking, sports, magic shows, games, and even a very special visit from Santa ✨️
We believe this camp offered a perfect blend of play and learning, allowing the children to gain valuable experiences while having a brilliant time 🌱
The success of this year`s Winter Camp is all thanks to the support of Mr Riaan, Mr Maslen, and Mr Bernard. We are truly grateful to our wonderful teachers!
And finally, a huge thank you to everyone for your participation and cooperation 😊

Introducing Mr. Robert Marvin, our Head of Mathematics and MYP Coordinator for OWIS Osaka Secondary School! ✨
This year marks the launch of our full-fledged Middle School, and Mr. Marvin plays a crucial role in supporting the transition from PYP to MYP 👨🏫
*PYP and MYP are two educational programmes offered by the International Baccalaureate.
The PYP (Primary Years Programme) is designed for children aged 3 to 12, while the MYP (Middle Years Programme) is aimed at those aged 11 to 16.
Mr. Marvin`s greatest joy comes from witnessing "student collaboration" – seeing students try things for themselves, ask each other questions, and only then approach him afterwards💡
That moment when the proverbial `light bulb` goes off in a student`s mind brings him immense excitement!
He feels truly happy to be a part of the students learning process and learns a great deal from them in return 😊🌱
*One World International School Osaka is an IB candidate school for the PYP. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School.

Let us introduce Mr Chris Zocanno, our Music Teacher at OWIS Osaka ✨
This year, our students have once again embraced a wide variety of challenges in their music lessons. Over the summer, they had the incredible opportunity to sing alongside opera singers at the Italian Pavilion of the Osaka-Kansai Expo!
In their music lessons, students are also exploring a range of instruments, including guitars, ukuleles, marimbas, and electronic drums. Some students even bring their own violins to play 🎻🥁
Additionally, they have been working on composing songs themed around “friendship” and “community.” These wonderful creations have been shared with parents, who have expressed delight in seeing the children’s growth.
At OWIS Osaka, we provide diverse experiences and opportunities for expression through music 🎶

Eligible Government Subsidies at OWIS Osaka 💰
We are registered provider under the Japanese Government`s `Free Childcare and Child Education Subsidy.` A straightforward application is all that is required to substantially lower the cost of your child`s education.

✔️ Children aged 0-2: A maximum of 42,000 yen per month (OWIS provides education for students aged 3-18)
✔️ Children aged 3-5: A maximum of 37,000 yen per month

Eligible Government Subsidies at OWIS Osaka 💰
We are registered provider under the Japanese Government`s `Free Childcare and Child Education Subsidy.` A straightforward application is all that is required to substantially lower the cost of your child`s education.

✔️ Children aged 0-2: A maximum of 42,000 yen per month (OWIS provides education for students aged 3-18)
✔️ Children aged 3-5: A maximum of 37,000 yen per month

1. What is required?
You will need to apply for a `Certification of the Need for Childcare’ from the municipal office. (Each ward office might have a slightly different name for the certificate).
2. Where do I submit the application?
Your application can be submitted at your local municipal office where your family is registered.
3. What is the deadline? [⚠️Important]
Application deadlines differ between local authorities. We strongly advise checking your municipality`s website and beginning your application as soon as possible.

This landmark event was more than a showcase.
It was the first time our full community gathered to celebrate the growth, courage, and creativity of our students.
From the playful ‘Chicken Dance’ by ECE to the sophisticated ‘Shadow Play’ and traditional Koto performances, the stage was filled with ‘light’ in every form 🌟
Highlights of the evening:
🎶 A joyful whole-school opening of ‘For the First Time in Forever’
🎭 Creative storytelling through ‘Pete the Cat’ and ‘The Planet Line-up’
🇯🇵 A beautiful fusion of tradition and modern spirit with Japanese folk songs
🤝 A powerful ‘Audience Choir’ where parents, students, and staff sang as one
This was a moment to mark our shared story, a community built on trust and partnership.

Rie Asai is a world-renowned koto player who has performed for the Pope and collaborated with musicians across the globe. Her visit was more than just a performance; it was a truly inspiring cultural exchange 😊
Students not only learnt about the history and cultural significance of the koto, but also had the opportunity to try playing the instrument themselves. Through this hands-on experience, they explored technique, rhythm, and the expressive power of traditional Japanese music 🎵
Moments like these bring learning to life, building curiosity, appreciation, and a deeper connection to the world around us 🌍✨

At OWIS Tsukuba, we offer two Transition Programmes to help children adjust smoothly to a new calendar year, language environment, and learning style 🌸✨
1️⃣ Kindergarten Transition Programme
Designed for children who have finished kindergarten in the Japanese school year and are joining our international programme.
What it offers:
Gentle bridge between systems: From April to August, children join our Kindergarten Transition class in a nurturing and inquiry environment.
Strong foundations: Up to four extra months of learning to build confidence in English, early literacy, numeracy, and classroom routines.
After this transition period, students are well-prepared to move into Primary School for our August-start academic year.
(Example: A child who has completed kindergarten in April joins our Kindergarten Transition class from April as a “transition process,” then moves into Grade 1 in August with a solid foundation.)
2️⃣ English Immersion Transition Programme (Primary and above)
For students older than Kindergarten age who are:
Moving from a Japanese school, or
New to learning in English

Intensive English support: A strong focus on developing English through meaningful topics such as maths, science, and everyday classroom inquiry ✏️🗣️

4月から8月まで探究心を育む環境の中で幼稚園移行支援クラスに参加します。
英語、初期読み書き、算数、教室での習慣など、自信を持って学べるよう最大4か月間の追加学習。
この期間を経て、お子さまは8月スタートの小学校に自信を持って進級できます。
（例：4月に幼稚園を修了したお子さまは、4月から学校移行支援クラスに参加し、その後8月にGrade 1へ進級します。）
2️⃣学校移行支援英語プログラム（小学生以上）
幼稚園以上のお子さまで、日本の学校から転校する、または英語での学習が初めてというお子さま向けのプログラムです。
内容：
算数や理科、探究活動など、意味のあるトピックを通して英語力を伸ばします✏️🗣️
聞く・話す・読む・書くを練習し、より自立してクラスに参加できる力を育てます。
お子さまが自信を持ち、クラスに溶け込み、当校のプログラムに積極的に参加できることを目指します。

At OWIS Tsukuba, we recently conducted a regular first aid and CPR training session for our staff to ensure that our students can learn in a safe and secure environment.
This time, we invited experts from the Tsukuba City Fire Department to provide practical guidance on life-saving procedures in emergency situations.
All staff approached the training with the utmost seriousness, preparing to respond quickly and appropriately in the unlikely event of an emergency.
OWIS Tsukuba will continue to prioritise the safety of each and every student and remain committed to providing an educational environment where safety always comes first.
