- Academic English Preparation (AEP) classes provide structured, in-school language support to strengthen everyday and academic English.
- Transition Programmes support a smooth move into our August academic year, with two pathways. One is an April-July kindergarten transition programme for students coming from a Japanese kindergarten. The other is a year-round, four-month Immersive English Transition Programme for students who would benefit from additional English exposure and classroom readiness.
- International Environment – As an English-speaking school with an international faculty and diverse student community, students practise English naturally every day through lessons, friendships, and school activities.

1️⃣ Kindergarten Transition Programme
For children who have finished kindergarten in the Japanese school year and are joining our international programme.
What it offers:
Gentle bridge between systems: From April to August, children join our Transition class in a nurturing, inquiry-based environment.
Strong foundations: Up to 4 extra months of learning to build confidence in English, early literacy, numeracy, and routines.
Ready for the new school year: Students are well-prepared to move into Primary School for our August-start academic year.

We are a registered provider under the Japanese Government`s `Free Childcare and Child Education Subsidy.` A straightforward application is all that is required to substantially lower the cost of your child`s education.

You will need to apply for a `Certification of the Need for Childcare’ from the municipal office. (Each ward office might have a slightly different name for the certificate).
2. Where do I submit the application?
Your application can be submitted at your local municipal office where your family is registered.

Application deadlines differ between local authorities. We strongly advise checking your municipality`s website and beginning your application as soon as possible.

✨ A Bright Beginning: OWIS Tsukuba’s First Winter Performance ✨
We are still glowing from the magic of our very first Winter Performance: ‘A Celebration of Light’ 🕯️
This landmark event was more than a showcase.
It was the first time our full community gathered to celebrate the growth, courage, and creativity of our students.
From the playful ‘Chicken Dance’ by ECE to the sophisticated ‘Shadow Play’ and traditional Koto performances, the stage was filled with ‘light’ in every form 🌟
Highlights of the evening:
🎶 A joyful whole-school opening of ‘For the First Time in Forever’
🎭 Creative storytelling through ‘Pete the Cat’ and ‘The Planet Line-up’
🇯🇵 A beautiful fusion of tradition and modern spirit with Japanese folk songs
🤝 A powerful ‘Audience Choir’ where parents, students, and staff sang as one
This was a moment to mark our shared story, a community built on trust and partnership.

We are a registered provider under the Japanese Government`s `Free Childcare and Child Education Subsidy.` A straightforward application is all that is required to substantially lower the cost of your child`s education.

Eligible Government Subsidies at OWIS Tsukuba 💰
We are a registered provider under the Japanese Government`s `Free Childcare and Child Education Subsidy.` A straightforward application is all that is required to substantially lower the cost of your child`s education.

✔️ Children aged 0-2: A maximum of 42,000 yen per month (OWIS provides education for students aged 3-18)
✔️ Children aged 3-5: A maximum of 37,000 yen per month
[A Simple Guide to Your Application]
1. What is required?
You will need to apply for a `Certification of the Need for Childcare’ from the municipal office. (Each ward office might have a slightly different name for the certificate).
2. Where do I submit the application?
Your application can be submitted at your local municipal office where your family is registered.
3. When is the deadline? [⚠️Important]
Application deadlines differ between local authorities. We strongly advise checking your municipality`s website and beginning your application as soon as possible.

✨ A Bright Beginning: OWIS Tsukuba’s First Winter Performance ✨
We are still glowing from the magic of our very first Winter Performance: ‘A Celebration of Light’ 🕯️
This landmark event was more than a showcase.
It was the first time our full community gathered to celebrate the growth, courage, and creativity of our students.
From the playful ‘Chicken Dance’ by ECE to the sophisticated ‘Shadow Play’ and traditional Koto performances, the stage was filled with ‘light’ in every form 🌟
Highlights of the evening:
🎶 A joyful whole-school opening of ‘For the First Time in Forever’
🎭 Creative storytelling through ‘Pete the Cat’ and ‘The Planet Line-up’
🇯🇵 A beautiful fusion of tradition and modern spirit with Japanese folk songs
🤝 A powerful ‘Audience Choir’ where parents, students, and staff sang as one
This was a moment to mark our shared story, a community built on trust and partnership.
Thank you to all the families who joined us!
