What is the Cambridge IGCSE?

Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education, or IGCSE, is an internationally recognised qualification designed for students aged 14 to 16.

The curriculum gives students the opportunity to study a broad range of subjects while developing the skills needed to become more confident and independent learners.

At OWIS, learning goes beyond preparing for examinations. Students are encouraged to ask questions, consider different perspectives, solve problems and apply what they learn to real-world situations.

This approach helps students build the academic knowledge and learning habits they will need as they move into Grades 11 and 12.

The Cambridge IGCSE Curriculum at OWIS

Our Cambridge IGCSE curriculum provides students with a broad academic foundation while allowing them to explore subjects that reflect their interests and future goals.

Students study core subjects alongside a selection of additional subjects. This gives them experience across different areas of learning before making more specialised subject choices in Grades 11 and 12.

Through classroom learning, practical activities, projects and independent study, students develop the skills to:

  • Apply their knowledge to real-world situations.
  • Ask questions, explore ideas and think critically.
  • Build strong knowledge across their IGCSE subjects.
  • Adapt to new situations and different ways of learning.
  • Work effectively as part of a team and communicate confidently in English.
  • Develop cultural awareness and work respectfully with people from different backgrounds.

These essential qualities support students throughout the IGCSE and prepare them for the increased academic demands of senior secondary education.

Beyond the Classroom - Well-rounded Education in Cambridge IGCSE at OWIS

Where Can IGCSE Take Your Child Next?

Cambridge IGCSE provides students with a strong academic foundation for the next stage of their education. After completing Grade 10 at OWIS, students can continue into an internationally recognised pathway for Grades 11 and 12.

Choose the Pathway That Suits Your Child

At OWIS Nanyang, students can progress from Cambridge IGCSE to the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP).

At OWIS Digital Campus, students have a choice of two pathways after IGCSE – the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) or Cambridge International A-Levels.

This gives students the opportunity to choose a pathway based on their strengths, interests, learning preferences and future study plans.

More Choice for Grades 11 and 12

Some students may prefer the breadth of the IBDP, while others may want to focus more closely on selected subjects through Cambridge International A-Levels.

Having these options means students can consider which pathway best supports where they want to go next, including their plans for university and further study.

Our academic and counselling teams work with students and families to help them understand their options and make an informed choice about the next stage of their education.

Parent & Alumni Testimonials

Janelle R., IBDP Batch of 2021

My teachers were incredibly supportive of me and my classmates when doing IB and some really went out of their way to help us as much as they could, which I appreciated so much.

Adeliya F., IBDP Batch of 2023

At OWIS, I've learnt a lot about communication, and how it's important to be proactive, not reactive. I've also learnt that kindness and empathy are key in leadership and collaborative work.

Christina O.

I like that technology plays enough of a part within my children's studies but does not dominate basic skills towards literacy with reading, writing and presentation. There is very much a balance.
