OWIS Secondary French students explore the history of the Notre-Dame at the ‘(Re)births’ Exhibition

Recently, our Grade 8, 9 and 11 French students visited the ‘(Re)births’ exhibition at Alliance Française de Singapour. The students learnt about the history of the iconic cathedral as well as the restorations that have taken place over the years.

Notre-Dame de Paris is among the most popular tourist destinations in Paris and Victor Hugo’s famous novel The Hunchback of Notre-Dame gave it new acclaim, resulting in major restorations in the following years. On 15th April 2019 when a fire caught its roof, the cathedral was severely damaged. It is under renovation at the moment. The French government decided to restore it and hopes to reopen the church in 2024 in time for the Summer Olympics in Paris.

The students had an enriching learning experience of the history of Notre-Dame through a guided tour, 3D models, VR, videos, pictures, computer-generated images.
