With kindness being at the heart of OWIS, we celebrated World Kindness Day in a big way \u2013 we created Singapore\u2019s largest felt heart, which was recorded in the Singapore Book of Records, a non-profit organisation which compiles records on a national level. It was one of the many activities happening in OWIS to promote kindness within the community, such as having a kindness council in place, where students undertake kindness leadership activities.<\/p>\n

For this record, students were encouraged to think of words they could relate to kindness and write them on heart-shaped felts. The record was witnessed by Dr William Wan, General Secretary of the Singapore Kindness Movement, an organisation that executes public education programmes aimed at cultivating kindness and graciousness, whom OWIS is proud to be a member of.<\/p>\n

Dr Wan was impressed by our efforts and imparted these pearls of wisdom: \u201cIn order for students to be leaders of tomorrow, they will need to learn and understand that moral values are as important as academic excellence. One World International School is committed not only to deliver high-quality education to their students, they also intentionally instill in their students the values of kindness, creating opportunities for them to be greater versions of themselves, thereby, contributing to a kinder and more gracious Singapore.\u201d<\/p>\n

In total, we made 1,167 felt hearts were lovingly made by the students. The final heart measured an impressive 2.4m by 2.1m, which was mounted on a display board for everyone to view and appreciate.<\/p>\n

\u201cOWIS students and staff members are always practising kindness in their daily interactions with anyone and everyone, so we are extremely honoured to be recognised by the Singapore Kindness Movement for our efforts in spreading kindness,\u201d said Mrs Michelle Dickinson, our Head of School.<\/p>\n
