For example, a student who is having difficulty meeting deadlines needs to be observed and supported in meeting the deadlines as expected.\u00a0<\/p><p data-w-id=\"a6bca6a2-c207-591c-71d7-fa1e06dcbeb3\" data-wf-id=\"[&quot;a6bca6a2-c207-591c-71d7-fa1e06dcbeb3&quot;]\" data-automation-id=\"dyn-item-post-body-input\">Often teachers are perceived as heroes who save a student&#8217;s day from a bully or mistreatment, and that makes a difference, but it diverges from reality when we engage in this image of a heroic teacher. I think being there to support students by preparing lessons well, making connections to real life, and getting them to think about why they are learning makes a big difference.\u00a0<\/p><p data-w-id=\"d8398e7c-bb5b-a7f7-fe9f-357f06b32a25\" data-wf-id=\"[&quot;d8398e7c-bb5b-a7f7-fe9f-357f06b32a25&quot;]\" data-automation-id=\"dyn-item-post-body-input\">Sometimes you have to make personal sacrifices that go beyond the lesson, such as providing students with extra material to review, pointing them to resources they can use for research, and going the extra mile by buying candy\/writing small cards and putting it on their tables to remind them that you care.<\/p><p data-w-id=\"943ae35c-c719-a2d3-d60d-10c3240b8e4e\" data-wf-id=\"[&quot;943ae35c-c719-a2d3-d60d-10c3240b8e4e&quot;]\" data-automation-id=\"dyn-item-post-body-input\">\u200d<strong data-w-id=\"0a252f69-d6ee-255c-66c4-07df865122a7\" data-wf-id=\"[&quot;0a252f69-d6ee-255c-66c4-07df865122a7&quot;]\" data-automation-id=\"dyn-item-post-body-input\">What makes you passionate about your subject \/ specialisation? I hope that students will continue to ask questions and not look for fixed model answers, because in reality there are no absolutely right\/correct answers. I like to look at the world from different angles, and everyone has different values and perspectives, and we should accept those differences.\u00a0<\/p><p data-w-id=\"6bcb07f8-860c-b466-19fc-7ab79103cd06\" data-wf-id=\"[&quot;6bcb07f8-860c-b466-19fc-7ab79103cd06&quot;]\" data-automation-id=\"dyn-item-post-body-input\">Science is a way of knowing, it is not the way to knowledge and definitely not the only way of knowing the world. Other fields and areas of knowledge should be equally respected. Just because you know more about Science does not make you a better and more knowledgeable person.<\/p><p data-w-id=\"65f6ec7b-c496-7fe8-588b-269610c94288\" data-wf-id=\"[&quot;65f6ec7b-c496-7fe8-588b-269610c94288&quot;]\" data-automation-id=\"dyn-item-post-body-input\">I will encourage students to think about and question experimental observations, methods and scientific concepts and theories, and not be afraid to take the first step to figure things out, make mistakes, and figure out why. This empowers learners by giving them the freedom to ask questions and explore.<\/p><p data-w-id=\"b01e4fd3-74dd-6ec6-13a1-0c72cccd153a\" data-wf-id=\"[&quot;b01e4fd3-74dd-6ec6-13a1-0c72cccd153a&quot;]\" data-automation-id=\"dyn-item-post-body-input\">Authentic science should be taught in this way, i.e., with <a href=\"https:\/\/owis.org\/sg\/learning-and-curricula\/ib-diploma\/\">open-ended questions and investigations<\/a> where students plan and investigate a concept that may not give them clear-cut answers.
