It provides intensive instruction in English and other academic subjects while fostering essential study skills and self-efficacy. The programme includes lessons in Reading &amp; Viewing, Writing, Listening, Speaking, and Maths, as well as specialist subjects like Physical Education (PE) and Drama. The curriculum also incorporates study skills, such as \u2018Learning to Learn\u2019 and \u2018Reflections,\u2019 ensuring students develop both linguistic and academic competencies.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Why AEPP?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The sheltered EAL approach at OWIS has been designed to ensure:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li><strong>Improved academic achievement<\/strong> through targeted instruction.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Enhanced English language proficiency<\/strong> to help students integrate successfully into mainstream education.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A positive outlook towards learning<\/strong>, boosting student confidence and self-efficacy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Does AEPP Work?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Cycle 1 review after the completion of the six-month course confirms the effectiveness of AEPP in preparing students for mainstream academic success. The results speak for themselves:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li><strong>Grade 6:<\/strong> 75% of AEPP students successfully met the exiting criteria.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Grade 7:<\/strong> 100% of students met the exiting criteria, demonstrating full readiness for mainstream academic integration.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Grade 8:<\/strong> 70% of AEPP students transitioned into mainstream EAL programming or exited EAL support completely.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These results reflect the AEPP\u2019s success in equipping students with the necessary English proficiency and academic skills to thrive in an international school environment.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Benefits to OWIS Digital Campus and Nanyang<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Introduced at OWIS Digital Campus in September 2024, the AEPP has had a positive impact in multiple aspects.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students who are new to English have gained the confidence to be well-prepared for mainstream classes.<\/li>\n<li>The programme has strengthened community integration, with students becoming active, engaged members of the school.<\/li>\n<li>Furthermore, parents have expressed high levels of satisfaction, praising the programme\u2019s transparency, the accuracy of testing results, and the professionalism of the AEPP team in supporting their children\u2019s academic and personal development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The programme has now been introduced at OWIS Nanyang Campus as well.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Looking Ahead<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>With the success of its first cycle, the AEPP at OWIS continues to stand as a model for effective EAL instruction.
