OWIS\u2019 Nanyang campus commenced in January 2018, and our values-driven culture has only grown from there. In this post, Mr James Sweeney, Head of School at our Nanyang campus, shares his own thoughts and perspectives on the distinct OWIS way of life.<\/span><\/p>\n

How does OWIS nurture a sense of belonging among students from so many different cultural backgrounds?<\/b><\/span><\/h6>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not just about different cultures, it\u2019s about the one culture of OWIS.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n

Mr Sweeney highlights the beauty of many cultures from different corners of the world coming together: How everyone respects and learns from one another, and how we work as one, are integral in influencing the OWIS sense of belonging.<\/span><\/p>\n

What does kindness-led learning mean in daily school life?<\/b><\/span><\/h6>\n

\u201cOur school is built on kindness – every action, every reflection links back to kindness.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n

For the Early Childhood and Primary School students, kindness is defined as being mindful, respectful, and being safe in the way they conduct themselves.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He shares that at the Secondary School level, students are taught to have integrity, show respect, and to take responsibility for actions in all walks of life.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why is the otter the school mascot for OWIS Nanyang?<\/span><\/strong><\/h6>\n

\u201cIt is a strong animal, it is a smart animal, and it is also a social animal that is here in Singapore.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n

Mr Sweeney shares that the otter not only links OWIS to the rest of Singapore – he also emphasises that he wants the otters\u2019 social nature and behaviours to be reflected in the way students learn from and collaborate with one another.<\/span><\/p>\n
