At One World International School (OWIS) Al Jazeera, our House System is designed to embody the values and spirit of the school, and to give every child a sense of belonging within our community. Students join one of four Houses, each named for an animal woven into Saudi Arabia’s heritage and conservation story: Shaheen (Falcon), Reem (Gazelle), Al-Maha (Oryx), and Nimr (Leopard).
The Shaheen, or Falcon, is Saudi Arabia’s national bird – a symbol of precision, ambition, and soaring sight. Shaheen House encourages students to set high standards, pursue their learning with purpose, and carry themselves with integrity. Just as the falcon rises above the desert with unwavering focus, so do the students of Shaheen House aim high and rise to meet every challenge, with humility and care for those learning alongside them.
The Reem, or Arabian gazelle, moves with grace and looks out for its herd – a reflection of empathy, inclusion, and gentle strength. Reem House represents the journey of our students as they learn to lead with kindness, care for their classmates, and build a community where every voice belongs. Reem students remind us that the truest leadership is found in lifting others up.
The Al-Maha, or Arabian oryx, was once on the brink of extinction and returned to the desert through patient conservation – a living symbol of endurance and renewal. Al-Maha House inspires students to stand steady through challenges, take responsibility for their environment, and show compassion for the world they are inheriting. Just as the oryx endures, so do the students of Al-Maha House grow in resilience, stewardship, and strength of character.
The Nimr, or Arabian leopard, is among the rarest creatures on earth – a symbol of courage in its most principled form. Nimr House encourages students to act with honesty, to speak up for what is right, and to stand by their values even when it is difficult. Just as the leopard moves with confidence, so do the students of Nimr House lead with bravery, integrity, and compassion for those who need a friend.
