The ib dp courses is a two-year educational programme for students aged 16-19 (Grades 11-12). It is internationally recognised and respected by universities worldwide. It aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge- students who flourish intellectually, emotionally, physically and ethically.
At OWIS, our approach to the IB DP is holistic and student-centred. We focus on developing intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills. The IB DP includes three core components that are connected to the academic subjects. These components work together to give students a comprehensive education.
This course encourages students to reflect on the nature of knowledge and how we know what we claim to know. It develops critical thinking and analytical skills.
The extended essay is an independent research project that allows students to delve deeper into a subject of their choice. It nurtures their research and writing skills, fosters a passion for inquiry and prepares them for undertaking similar projects at higher education levels.
CAS is a vital component of the IB DP that promotes experiential learning beyond the classroom. It encourages students to engage in creative endeavours, physical activities and community service. This fosters a well-rounded approach to personal development.
The Core uses an interdisciplinary approach to learning. This helps students understand complex ideas and appreciate different perspectives.
The IB DP programme at OWIS is structured around six subject groups, each designed to provide a broad and balanced education. Students can choose one subject from each group, with a combination of Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL) courses.
This group focuses on the study of literature and language in depth, exploring various genres, styles and cultural contexts.

This group aims to develop proficiency in a language other than the student’s mother tongue. Courses range from beginner toadvanced levels.

This group covers a wide range of subjects that explore human society, culture and relationships.
Subjects: History, Geography, Economics, Business Management, Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy, Global Politics, Environmental Systems and Societies.
This group offers a variety of scientific disciplines providing students with a strong foundation in scientific inquiry and experimentation.
Subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Design Technology, Sports, Exercise and Health Science.
This group provides students with the opportunity to develop mathematical skills and understanding through a range of courses.
Subjects:Mathematical Studies SL, Mathematics SL, Mathematics HL, Further Mathematics HL.
This group allows students to explore their creativity and develop artistic skills and appreciation.
