Citizenship Classes & Assemblies (Thursdays)
Every Thursday at OWIS Osaka, students take part in Citizenship classes, which also serve as regular assemblies designed to strengthen confidence, communication skills, and a sense of belonging across the school.
Weekly Citizenship & Assembly Structure
Three Thursdays each month are dedicated to stage-based Citizenship sessions where students come together in age-appropriate groups:
EC to Grade 2
Grade 3 to Grade 5
Junior Secondary
Senior Secondary
On the final Thursday of each month, the entire school gathers for a whole-school assembly in the Gym, reinforcing unity and shared values across all year levels.
What Happens During Citizenship & Assemblies
Citizenship sessions are interactive and student-centred. They include:
- Student presentations showcasing classroom learning (delivered in English).
- Academic quiz shows and collaborative activities
- House competitions and announcements
- Celebrations of student achievements
- Updates and messages aligned with school values
These sessions provide meaningful opportunities for students to build public-speaking confidence, reflect on their learning, and celebrate each other’s progress. They also encourage students to understand the learning material enough to teach others what they have learned in English.

Student Project Days (Fridays)
Inquiry in Action Through the Unit of Inquiry (UoI)
Fridays at OWIS Osaka are dedicated to deeper learning through Student Project Days, an important part of our IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) approach and the Unit of Inquiry (UoI) framework.
These sessions allow students to explore concepts more deeply through research, collaboration, creativity, and reflection — bringing together knowledge and skills developed throughout the week.
What Student Project Days Look Like
Student Project Days are structured yet flexible, giving learners the opportunity to:
- Work collaboratively on inquiry-based projects
- Conduct research using age-appropriate tools and resources
- Create presentations, models, and creative responses
- Apply literacy, numeracy, and critical-thinking skills in real contexts
- Reflect on their learning and share outcomes with peers

Students wear the OWIS uniform throughout the week, designed to support learning, movement, and comfort across classroom lessons, outdoor play, and specialist activities.
Free Dress Day (Fridays)
Fridays are Free Dress Days, allowing students to express themselves while maintaining a neat, school-appropriate appearance.
Free Dress Day allows students to express their personality in an age-appropriate way. This supports confidence, independence, and identity development — especially important in international school environments.

OWIS Osaka partners with Cezars Kitchen, a trusted international school food provider, to offer fresh, balanced meals every day.

Student Health & School Nurse
On-Site Health Support for Peace of Mind
Student wellbeing is our priority. OWIS Osaka has a full-time on-site nurse and a dedicated nurse’s office to support students throughout the school day.

- Earthquake drills aligned with Japan safety protocols
- Fire evacuation drills with clear assembly procedures
- Intruder/lockdown drills focused on safe classroom responses
