Head of School’s Welcome Message To New Members Of The OWIS Tsukuba Community

Dear Parents and Families,

Welcome to One World International School Tsukuba.

As the Founding Head of School, I am delighted to welcome you to the 2026–2027 academic year and to the second year of our growing school community.

At OWIS Tsukuba, students come first. This principle sits at the heart of who we are and guides the decisions we make as a school. We want every student to feel known, valued, supported and challenged, and to know that their ideas, interests and individual strengths matter.

We believe that meaningful learning happens when students are curious, engaged and able to make connections between what they learn and the world around them. Our classrooms therefore place emphasis on inquiry, conceptual understanding, creativity, collaboration and purposeful learning. Rather than simply asking students to remember information, we encourage them to ask questions, investigate ideas, solve problems, communicate their thinking and take increasing ownership of their learning.

As our school continues to grow, so too does the range of opportunities available to our students. Our aim is not only to support strong academic achievement, but to develop confident, compassionate and capable young people who are prepared to contribute positively to their communities and to an increasingly interconnected world.

Kindness, respect and inclusion remain central to our school culture. We want OWIS Tsukuba to be a community in which every student feels that they belong. Students are encouraged to understand different perspectives, care for others, take responsible risks and learn from both success and challenge.

Leadership is also an important part of the OWIS Tsukuba experience. We believe leadership begins with learning to understand oneself, make responsible choices and contribute positively to others. Through classroom learning, student voice, our House System, school events and wider opportunities, students are encouraged to develop confidence, responsibility and the courage to make a difference.

Our teachers play a central role in making this possible. They work to understand each learner, create engaging learning experiences and provide the support and challenge students need to continue progressing. At the same time, we recognise that the strongest education is built through partnership. Open communication and collaboration between students, families and the school are essential to helping every child thrive.

As we enter our second year, we are proud of how far our community has already come, while remaining ambitious about what we are continuing to build. OWIS Tsukuba is a school that is growing, developing and continually reflecting on how we can provide an even stronger experience for our students.

Most importantly, we want our students to enjoy coming to school, to feel safe, inspired and excited by what they are learning, and to leave us each day knowing that they are an important part of our community.
