Celebrating our IBDP Batch of 2024: Daniella H.

It’s that time of the year again, when we asked a few of our graduating cohort of IBDP students to reflect on their years at OWIS Nanyang and share the highlights of their experiences.
This week, we put the spotlight on Daniella, who has been at OWIS Nanyang since 2019.

In which year and grade level did you start at OWIS?

Grade 8 in AY2019-2020

What has been the highlight of your student life at OWIS?

The student community, most definitely. The values of kindness and compassion that OWIS holds so highly is clear in the both the students and teachers in the way that they conduct themselves in their interactions with others.

What do you think will be your fondest memory of the school?

The friends I have made who have stuck with me through the challenges of growing up. Going through online learning during the pandemic and then moving into the IB Diploma Programme (which is notably one of the most difficult programmes) in the world was difficult, but it was definitely made better by having a strong support network of friends that I could rely on, and that could rely on me.

Do you have a favourite teacher at OWIS for whom you would like to share a few words of appreciation?

Ms. Roy, our Diploma Programme Coordinator. She has been a figure of unwavering support in my journey as an IB student. From the bottom of my heart, I do not think I would be able to do this without her.

As you enter the next phase of your life, what would you take forward from your time here at OWIS?

The learning environment at OWIS has definitely helped me gain confidence in my own skills and knowledge; I am less afraid to answer questions in class, or to try and solve a problem on the board. I am also more confident in asking for help from teachers and peers when I need it. Especially as I hope to move on to university after graduating, I feel that this confidence and being comfortable in relying on others is important to have.

What are your plans after OWIS?

I hope to one day attend university and further my studies. I am passionate about learning and want to discover more about the world in which I live. I’m excited to see what the world has to offer and what I can do to make it a better place.

Congratulations on everything you have achieved so far, Daniella. We wish you success in your examinations as well as in your future studies and career!
