We follow a well-rounded approach to education in our IB and Cambridge curricula at both our campuses – OWIS Nanyang and OWIS Digital Campus.

Last week, as part of their engaging Unit of Inquiry, our Grade 3s explored the fascinating world of 🏢 buildings and structures. From understanding design factors and construction innovations to analyzing the environmental impact of buildings, they delved into real-world challenges and solutions. Highlights included studying iconic buildings in Singapore and Japan, where students learned how innovative designs address issues like earthquakes.
The unit culminated in an exciting share session, where students showcased their learning journey and creativity. Their final task? Designing and constructing a 50 cm tall structure that was strong, stable, included eco-friendly features, and incorporated earthquake-resistant elements. Adding a touch of science, they even integrated circuits into their creations! This rewarding experience not only deepened their understanding of design and engineering but also emphasized the power of innovation in solving global challenges.

Focusing on the theme of Singapore’s Past, Present, and Future, the educational journey encouraged students to delve into creative expression and storytelling.
Using the Singapore River and its iconic landmarks as a backdrop, students honed their performing skills while drawing connections between history and imagination. As Shakespeare said, "All the world`s a stage, and all the men and women merely players." With that spirit in mind, our Grade 9 Literature in English students took to the outdoors to perform Act 4, Scene 1 of Shakespeare’s classic comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Interestingly, this outdoor setting echoes how such plays might have been staged in Shakespeare’s time.
This comical scene, featuring Titania doting on Nick Bottom (complete with his hilariously transformed donkey head), challenged students to embrace Shakespeare’s humor and convey the enchantment and absurdity of the moment.
With just Act 5 left to explore, this performance provided a fun, collaborative way for students to deepen their connection to the text while showcasing their creativity and understanding. 👏 Bravo to all our budding actors!

In UOI, our EC1 students got their feet wet with the question, "Where does water come from?" Through engaging, hands-on learning, they visited very creative, interactive stations, including the water resources, pipe, water treatment, and tap stations, to gain a deeper understanding of water`s journey.
To cap off their exploration, students showcased their learning with a creative role-play activity, navigating obstacles to demonstrate how water is cleaned and transported before reaching our homes. An 🌟 inspiring mix of inquiry, teamwork, and creativity!

In one of their lessons, our EC students dove into the world of measuring heights and lengths using non-standard units. They got busy and compared everyday items like pencils and books, applying their understanding of measurement in a practical, hands-on setting.
This activity helped reinforced key concepts and also sparked their engagement and curiosity, making learning both fun and meaningful. 👏Great job!

How do a chemistry lesson and 🧤 hand warmers go hand in hand? Well there`s an interesting story here!
In a recent lesson on Chemical Energetics, students dove into the concepts of exothermic and endothermic reactions. They explored how chemical reactions release or absorb energy by studying real-life examples of exothermic processes, such as hand warmers. Through hands-on activities and worksheets, they linked theory to application, enhancing their understanding of this fundamental topic.
This engaging lesson was inspired by our teacher`s recent trip to London. While abroad, he discovered hand warmers from Decathlon Singapore and delved into how they work—using a rusting reaction with iron powder, sodium chloride, and vermiculite to generate and retain heat. Bringing this experience back to the classroom made learning both practical and memorable for our students! 🌡️✨

Our Accelerated Math program students recently showcased their analytical and presentation skills in an engaging session on frequency polygons and stem-and-leaf plots. This activity, aligned with IB ATL skills, encouraged them to:
🔍 Think Critically: Compare frequency polygons to histograms and analyze data trends.
🎤 Communicate Effectively: Explain concepts using PowerPoint and engage their peers through Kahoot quizzes.
📚 Conduct Research: Collect and analyze datasets to draw meaningful conclusions.
📋 Manage Themselves: Plan and deliver clear, well-organized presentations.
🤝 Collaborate: Strengthen teamwork and peer interactions in group settings.
The experience fostered real-world connections, demonstrating how mathematical concepts apply to practical situations.

Students in our Accelerated Maths Track take on two IGCSE Maths courses in the time it normally takes to complete one. They complete Extended Maths in Grade 9 and Additional Maths in Grade 10. Open to the top 25% of students, based on a special assessment, this program challenges them academically and prepares them for careers in fields such as engineering.

They had the honour of having Timour’s mom and Azamat’s parents join them to share stories in French and Kyrgyz. A special shoutout to Timour for translating the French story with ease and to Azamat for writing our names beautifully in Kyrgyz letters—an inspiring display of linguistic and cultural connection!
And during their🏳️flag-making activity, students explored the practical application of ratios, discovering that not all flags follow the 3:2 rectangle format. Did you know that?
