What OWIS parents and students say

Janelle R., IBDP Batch of 2021
My teachers were incredibly supportive of me and my classmates when doing IB and some really went out of their way to help us as much as they could, which I appreciated so much.

Adeliya F., IBDP Batch of 2023
At OWIS, I've learnt a lot about communication, and how it's important to be proactive, not reactive. I've also learnt that kindness and empathy are key in leadership and collaborative work.

Christina O.
I like that technology plays enough of a part within my children's studies but does not dominate basic skills towards literacy with reading, writing and presentation. There is very much a balance.

FIELD TRIP ALERT!🥳😄😁🏫🎒
Our IB PYP Grade 2 and Grade 3 students recently had the opportunity to visit the Alliance Française to discover the venue as well as an exhibition of Singaporean paintings inspired by famous French artworks. The artists incorporated elements of Singaporean culture or adapted the works to their own lives and artistic worlds.
Students had to choose their favourite painting, reflect on it, and decide what they would like to change before creating and drawing their own version.
It is also a wonderful place to visit with your family, as the Alliance Française offers hundreds of cultural events throughout the year.
Such excursions allow our SG-based students to experience cultures beyond what is normally experienced in Singapore – allowing the OWIS community to immerse themselves in our motto of "One World, One Community"!

Last week, the IBPYP students had their Student-Led Conference [SLC ].
As part of the SLC, students took the time to explain, to their visiting parents, their recent classroom learnings – effectively showcasing the progress they had made and their points on interest in school.
It was wonderful being able to capture so many moments of parents from different cultures coming together to observe their own children roleplay as teachers here at OWIS Nanyang!

We are thrilled to celebrate the talented young playwrights of OWIS Nanyang Primary, whose original scripts wowed our judges in this term`s Play Script Creation Contest! 🥳🥳🥳
Open to students from EC through to Grade 5, the contest invited young writers to craft their own short play – written or recorded, comedy or tragedy, with no set theme – simply to tell the story they care about most. One winner was selected per grade, with the extraordinary prize of having their script performed by professional actors.
Congratulations to our winners: Jaivardhan Vijayraghvan (1C) for The Magic Key, Tanya Soni (2D) for Maya and The Magical Books, Aakriti Iyer (3B) for The Wishing Star, the Grade 4 collaborative team of Shivangi Dhoundiyal, Kiara Gambhir, Sharvi Kaul, Aadya Anandaraman, and Vinisha Samel for The Escape Room, and Yazhini Umadevi Viduthalai (5A) for Unbound.
From magical adventures to real escape thrillers, the range of storytelling on display was nothing short of remarkable. We cannot wait to see these scripts brought to life on stage!

This week’s STEAM session was one for the books – and the recycled materials habitat projects by IBPYP Grade 4D!
The lesson saw many students nearing the finish line, arriving with clear visions of what they wanted to create and diving straight into making it happen. Particularly heartening was the creative use of both natural and man-made materials – students were brainstorming unconventional ways to repurpose everyday objects that we’d normally dismiss. A toilet roll became a tree trunk. Bubble wrap became a coral reef. A bottle cap became a pond. The ingenuity was real!
With just one more session to go, these projects are well on track to becoming the crown jewel of our Biodiversity unit’s STEAM exploration.
