Chat with the Captain of Under-14 Football Team at OWIS Nanyang on ACSIS performance

In February 2024, our U14 football team delivered an outstanding performance, triumphing over the Singapore American School with an impressive 6-2 victory at our OWIS Nanyang football field. The boys showcased exceptional teamwork, determination, and skill throughout the match, proving that hard work truly pays off.

We had a quick chat with our Grade 8 student Isato D., who is the Captain of the Under-14 Football Team at OWIS Nanyang.

What has been the highlight of the ACSIS sports season / competitions for you?
All the games were fascinating, but the highlight for us was that we were able to play against a team that is even higher level than last year’s U14 division. Last year, we took first place in the ACSIS U14 Division 4 tournament, so we started this year in Division 3, which is a step up.

Has being a part of this team and the competitions improved your overall learning experience at OWIS?
I have learned many things from this soccer team. One of them is the ability to communicate. When you are on a soccer team, you play with people from other grades than your own, so the key was how well you can converse with them.

How has the training and preparation experience been?
Currently, we practise every Tuesday after school. Still, since it is the rainy season in Singapore, it often rains after school, so we have only had about three practices this year. But I am sure that we will be able to practise more from now on, so I would like to continue to work hard as one team.

We are proud of our students who are balancing their studies with their passion for football and making the OWIS flag fly high on the football field!
