In this interview with Anju Cawthra from Seasoned Singapore Expat Women, Mr James Morris, Head of School of OWIS Digital Campus, talks about the importance of student-centric education at our school.
In his words, “We want to prepare our our students for the future and equip them with the skills as soon as we possibly can so that they can start becoming responsible, members of the community and make lasting impact on communities and they do not wait till they’re thirty, forty, fifty years old, but actually do it now when they when they can.”
Giving an example of student-centric education in the classroom, Mr Morris cited the example of the inquiry-led learning in the IB Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). “The Unit of Inquiry in the IB PYP is a multidisciplinary curriculum. It links all the subjects – Geography, Maths, Sciences, Arts – in one unit. The students research the question. They come up with their feedback surveys, and then they actually prepare their coursework. And at different points of the academic year, we actually have personal projects or exhibitions where the students can present to visiting members of the community, parents, teachers, and other students, about the findings of the project.”
