Mr James Sweeney has been appointed as the new Head of School for OWIS Nanyang and Suntec. He will be taking over the reins of OWIS Nanyang and Suntec from Mr Mark Renie, who will be moving overseas for his next school leadership role.
Originally from Birmingham, England, Mr Sweeney started his career as a Primary School teacher before taking on further responsibilities. He has both taught and held leadership positions in schools in the UK, South Korea and China over the past several years.
His philosophy about education is that academic excellence is developed in tandem with core values, a sense of community, and opportunities that will stay with students far beyond their time at school. His aim is for students to enjoy their childhood of building lifelong friends, nurturing talents, celebrating achievements, and learning and growing together.
Commenting on Mr Sweeney’s appointment, Mr Prashant Bafna, Country Director of OWIS and GIIS, said, “Mr Sweeney has demonstrated a deep commitment to fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment. He has a proven track record of academic excellence and a leadership style that promotes collaboration, innovation and continuous growth. Mr Sweeney will bring fresh perspective and strategic direction to our school. He will be dedicated to building strong relationships with students, parents, and members of staff and ensuring that our school continues to provide the highest quality of education for our learners.”
Mr Sweeney said, “I am keen on learning about and from our school community. I am eager to forge connections with students, faculty, parents, and staff. Having thoroughly researched this school and longed to be part of it, I now relish the opportunity to transition from an observer to an active participant in our community.”
