On Orientation Day, Mr James Sweeney, Head of School of OWIS Nanyang and Suntec, introduced parents in the school community to not just the teaching faculty, but also the new Heads of Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary at One World International School Nanyang Campus.
Mr David Swanson has joined OWIS Nanyang as the Head of Secondary School. With a diverse and enriching educational journey spanning across continents, Mr Swanson’s career reflects a commitment to nurturing young minds. Beginning as a Maths and Science Teacher at a high school in Parker, Colorado, he embarked on a path in international education, teaching Chemistry at an international school in Cairo, Egypt. His tenure at an international school in Bangplee, Thailand, saw him progress into the role of Elementary and Middle School Principal, fostering not only academic growth but also assuming administrative responsibilities.
Thereon, he advanced into senior leadership roles – from Middle School Principal in Thailand to Deputy Head at an international school in Vietnam. From 2016 to 2023, he served as the Head of School at an international school in Shenzhen in China.
Mr Swanson’s teaching philosophy revolves around prioritising student well-being, advocating for holistic development, and instilling vital future skills. His belief in nurturing skills, such as communication, critical thinking and self-management, highlight his drive to prepare students for a world where adaptability and human values supersede mere information retention.
