Building a strong foundation for learning in the OWIS Bilingual classroom

In our Chinese-English Bilingual Programme, our students are given daily exposure to both languages. Our Bilingual teachers always include the basics to create a strong foundation, and in the case of young students, this would be learning about daily routines. Our primary school students in Grade 1 in the Bilingual Programme at OWIS Nanyang have been doing very well at following verbal instructions in Mandarin, and they are gaining confidence in speaking in Mandarin as well.

Recently, students practised the Chinese song, ‘我们是一家人’, ‘We Are One Family’, and recorded videos. By reading picture books, they found Chinese fun and useful.

In integration with the IB PYP Unit of Inquiry, students also learned how to read and write the names and locations of their origin countries in Chinese.
