Celebrating Unity in Diversity: International Day in OWIS Nanyang

Diversity is more than just a number, it is the heart of who we are as a community. With students representing more than 70 nationalities, every day on campus is a collaboration  of global perspectives and shared learning. This spirit came alive beautifully during our International Day, one of the most anticipated events in our school calendar.

Students, parents, and staff members came together dressed in vibrant national and traditional costumes, proudly representing their home countries. From dazzling sarees and kimonos to football jerseys and traditional robes, every outfit told a story.

A series of cultural performances  brought incredible energy and joy to the parade square, later followed by our classic Flag Parade. Student and staff flag bearers waved the flags of their nations with pride as everyone cheered them on. The Country Fair, a staple event by our OWIS Parent Community which improves in scale and participation every year, was a favourite among many. This year, the Fair offered a global journey through vibrant customs, traditions and flavours, from Lithuanian mushroom cookies to yakitori skewers and everything in between.

Beyond the festivities, International Day was also an opportunity for meaningful learning. Classrooms transformed into spaces for reflective discussions about what it means to be a global citizen, someone who values empathy, inclusivity, and collaboration. Through these conversations, students learned that understanding and appreciating differences is the first step toward creating a more connected and compassionate world.

International Day is a shining example of the OWIS ethos of kindness, respect, and inclusivity. With no single nationality exceeding 30% of the student body, OWIS offers a truly international environment where every child feels seen, valued, and heard.
