The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is a challenging yet rewarding journey that prepares students for success in university and beyond. At OWIS Nanyang, our IBDP students thrive in a supportive, inquiry-driven environment that nurtures critical thinking, global perspectives, and personal growth. But what is it really like to be an IBDP student here?
We asked a few of our IBDP Batch of 2025 learners to share their experiences—their biggest takeaways and most memorable moments. Read on as Aliya S., who also serves as School President, reflects on her IBDP journey and offer insights into what makes OWIS Nanyang a special place for academic and personal development.
In which year and grade level did you start at OWIS?
I joined OWIS in 2020, in the last term of Grade 7.
What has been the highlight of your student life at OWIS?
One of the highlights of my student life in OWIS, is sharing my academic journey with the people I have grown close to. Throughout my years at OWIS, this had made the journey a lot more enjoyable, filling my academic journey with a positive and warm light.
What do you think will be your fondest memory of the school?
My fondest memory of this school would be my peers, as well as special relationships and bonds formed with a few teachers. This has provided my OWIS academic journey with support, pushing me to strive to become the best version of myself as I take on with my future endeavours.
Do you have a favourite teacher at OWIS for whom you would like to share a few words of appreciation?
One of the teachers that has made a big impact on my OWIS academic journey is Miss Shabnam Zareefi. I have only been a student of Miss Zareefi for two years, yet throughout this journey, she has continuously provided immense support, joy, love, enthusiasm and passion for her students and teaching Psychology. Miss Zareefi makes her classes educational, yet engaging while fostering a safe and positive atmosphere that I look forward to everyday. I have formed a special bond with Miss Zareefi and will never forget her effort and support.
As you enter the next phase of your life, what would you take forward from your time here at OWIS?
As I enter the next phase of my life, I take on the skills of self-management, discipline and resilience. I have learned how to manage the stresses of balancing my academics and personal life, maintaining discipline throughout this academic journey and staying resilient in the face of setbacks.
What are your plans after OWIS?
As I take on the world after OWIS, I plan to pursue my studies of Psychology, a subject I have grown to love, and find fascinating. Although I will miss the incredible friendships I have made throughout my time in OWIS, I am excited to embrace new opportunities, meet new peers and create unforgettable experiences in the new places we will find ourselves in.
Aliya, we wish you all the very best in your future endeavours!
