For Zim, OWIS Nanyang Campus has been a place where new friendships, new experiences, and a supportive community helped him grow in confidence.
Watch his video interview:
When he joined OWIS in Grade 5, English was still a challenge. Having previously attended a Japanese school in Singapore, he was stepping into a much more international environment. Determined to improve, he immersed himself in conversations with classmates, spending time with friends and practising the language every day. What began as a challenge gradually became one of his greatest achievements.
Today, Zim reflects proudly on how far he has come. Not only has he become fluent in English, but he has also become more confident in expressing himself and connecting with people from different backgrounds.
Teachers also played an important role in his journey. He remembers his Grade 6 tutor and English teacher, who helped him develop both his language skills and confidence. Her encouragement gave him the foundation he needed to thrive in an English-speaking environment.
As he progressed through school, Zim found support not only from teachers but also from classmates. Whether preparing for exams or navigating everyday school life, there was always someone willing to help. That sense of teamwork and friendship made a lasting impression.
Perhaps the biggest change has been his perspective on the world. Moving from a school where most of his peers shared a similar background to a truly international community at OWIS Nanyang Campus allowed him to learn about different cultures, make friends from around the world, and broaden his horizons.
