One World, Many Journeys Stories: Yungwon, IBDP 2026 Graduand

For Yungwon, his journey at OWIS Nanyang Campus is one of resilience, friendship, and transformation.

Joining in Grade 5, Yungwon arrived in Singapore unable to speak English. The early days were challenging—simple tasks like asking for help felt overwhelming. Yet, small acts of kindness made a big difference. He recalls a moment during PE when he injured his knee but couldn’t explain it to his teacher. A classmate stepped in to help translate, ensuring he received care. That moment of support became one of his earliest and most meaningful memories.

As the years passed, Yungwon gradually found a sense of belonging in the school community. By Grade 6, he had become more comfortable with both the language and the diverse culture around him. Through ECAs like netball, he built lasting friendships, including one with a classmate who is graduating in the same cohort, just a month from now.

Academically, his growth has been just as remarkable. Once unsure of his abilities, Yungwon began to see what he was capable of through consistent effort. Performing well in his IGCSE exams—achieving top grades—marked a turning point, boosting his confidence and shaping his mindset. Even in the IBDP, he continued to challenge himself, from improving his English skills to completing his Physics Extended Essay with support from teachers and peers.

Beyond academics, One World International School broadened his perspective. Being part of an international community helped him move past stereotypes and embrace cultural differences. Learning bits of new languages and forming friendships across nationalities became part of his everyday life.

Now graduating, Yungwon looks ahead to university, carrying with him not just academic success, but confidence, empathy, and a global outlook—hallmarks of his journey at OWIS.
