We are delighted to share with immense pride that one of our Grade 12 students at OWIS Nanyang, Rina H., has achieved an exceptional score of 42 in the recent IBDP 2024 examinations. This accomplishment is a testament to her hard work and dedication.
We were fortunate to sit down with Rina for a quick chat after announcing the results, where she shared her thoughts and experiences.
What have been the highlights of your learning experience at OWIS Nanyang?
As a student who has studied at OWIS Nanyang for five years, I had an enjoyable and meaningful learning experience that has truly shaped part of my academic journey. The highlights of my time in this school have been with the engaging teachers who have guided me through the challenging journey with their unwavering support and patience. But more than that, the sense of belonging and inclusivity in the multicultural community the school creates has truly enriched my academic life, allowing me to interact with peers from diverse backgrounds and feel welcomed and accepted.
Are there some study-related or general tips you would share with future IBDP cohorts for their preparation for the exams?
The IBDP programme is a two-year-long marathon with numerous assignments and exams. To prepare for this, starting revision early and practising time management is essential. These two factors can prevent procrastination and last-minute cramming and make students feel more prepared and confident. Additionally, familiarising the exam format of the IBDP exams is as important as understanding the concepts and the syllabus of the subjects. Practising past papers to get used to the exam pattern is crucial.
What course will you be pursuing in your higher studies and in which university? How did you identify your interest in this particular course and university?
I plan to study for a degree in Applied Biology and Chemistry at Seoul National
University. SNU is a prestigious institution in South Korea that is well-known for its
high-quality education. I think it would be an appropriate university for me to pursue my educational prowess. My interest in Biology and Chemistry began during high school when I conducted experiments for my Science IAs. This research project intrigued me because it taught me about the real-life applications of Science and how it is intertwined with our daily lives.
What are you looking forward to in life after school?
After graduating high school, I would like to take a break from all the exam stress and spend time with my family and friends, which I could not do during the IB finals. When I move to Seoul for university, I look forward to meeting new friends in a new environment and sharing the same passion towards studies. I would also travel around Korea to experience the culture there and feel more connected to my roots.
We wish Rina all the very best in her higher studies and future endeavours!
