Alumni Perspectives: How OWIS Nanyang Has Impacted the Lives of Graduates

At One World International School (OWIS) Nanyang Campus, our mission is to help students excel academically and grow into compassionate, resilient and globally-minded young adults. Below, we have compiled testimonials from the graduates of our IB Diploma Programme to help parents understand how we make that mission a reality. Sanchia K.

Sanchia K. graduated in 2024 and is continuing her studies at a reputed university in Singapore. When reflecting on her experience at OWIS, Sanchia mentions her former biology teacher, Mrs Neeti Pal, being a source of strength. “She helped me out during stressful times,” says Sanchia, “and provided me with great support academically and emotionally.”

Cathy W.

Cathy W. graduated in 2024 and plans to pursue the visual arts, specifically 2D animation. Cathy is thankful for the friends she made during her time at OWIS. “They are my rock and my everything; they’ve gotten me through thick and thin, and I’ve learned alongside them and also learned from them,” she says. “Additionally, it helps that OWIS is a comparatively kinder and more relaxed environment compared to other international schools.”

Daniella H.

Daniella H. started her educational journey at OWIS in Grade 8. She graduated in 2024 and is now attending a reputed university in Singapore. When asked about the highlight of student life at OWIS, Daniella says: “The student community, most definitely. The values of kindness and compassion that OWIS holds so highly is clear in both the students and teachers in the way that they conduct themselves in their interactions with others.”

Adeliya F.

Adeliya F. began studying at OWIS in Grade 8. After graduating in 2023, she enrolled in university to pursue a degree in filmmaking. Reflecting on her experience at OWIS, she thanks Ms Zareefi (Humanities teacher), Ms Adler (Senior Coordinator for Pastoral Care for Secondary School) and Mr Croft (former Senior Coordinator for the IB DP) for their support. “… they have consistently treated me like an adult and showed me nothing but kindness and respect,” Adeliya says. “They have been supporting me heavily with dealing with the emotional impact of the war in Ukraine.”

Arushi D.

A 2023 graduate, Arushi D. started her educational journey at OWIS in Grade 8. She is pursuing higher studies in digital art at a university in the United Kingdom. “I would like to thank Ms Sanhita Roy for putting up with all the IB DP Year 2 students and will forever be grateful to her for pushing me to do my best and achieve my goals in visual art,” Arushi says.

Adrina J.

Adrina J. began at OWIS in Grade 8 and graduated in 2023. During her time with us, she came to recognise the value of patience and persistence. “From OWIS, I was able to learn that failure on your first try doesn’t mean you can never succeed,” Adrina says. “For example, during the IGCSE mocks, my grades were not the best. However, with the motivation and support of the teachers, I was able to improve and was able to pass the IGCSEs with a distinction.”

Stasia D.

Stasia D. graduated from OWIS in 2023. When reflecting on her educational journey, she fondly remembers performing dances for an International Day assembly in IB DP Year 1. “Working together and practising with my class was always so funny and exciting and is something I will never forget,” she says.

Bunta K.

Bunta K. began his educational journey at OWIS in Grade 7. After graduating in 2023, he has been attending a university in the United Kingdom. Reflecting on his experience at OWIS, Bunta thanks his former English teacher, Mr Glover. “He has supported me in both academics and outside class,” Bunta says.

Ailha A.

After graduating in 2023, Ailha A. went on to study Anthropology at a university in Canada. “Funnily enough,” she says, “the teachers I’ve met at OWIS have inspired me to take on teaching after college/university, so that is one thing that excites me.” More specifically, Ailha cites Ms Roy as having the most significant impact. “I hope she knows how thankful I am for all her support and her work in OWIS throughout all the years.”

Yashodhan V.

Yashodhan V. began studying at OWIS in Grade 8. After graduating in 2023, he enrolled at a reputed university in Canada to pursue Psychology. When reflecting on his experience at OWIS, Yashodhan was most appreciative of our core values of kindness and compassion. “OWIS has highlighted the importance of kindness and being open-minded,” he says, “which is something I will always take forward with me wherever I go.”

Madhav A.

Madhav A. is an OWIS alumnus who went on to study accounts and finance in the United Kingdom after graduating in 2023. When asked about his experience at OWIS, Madhav mentions Ms Roy. “She helped me get through my courses and always pushed me to do my best, and that is why I was able to manage my academics in a proper manner,” he says. Madhav also applauds the curriculum’s emphasis on diversity and respect for different cultures. “I’ll take forward the importance of inclusiveness and how it benefits individuals and society as a whole,” he notes.

Aventhika R.

Aventhika R. began her educational journey at OWIS in Grade 11. She graduated in 2023. During her time at OWIS, Aventhika learned that “communication is key.” She also received support from Ms Roy, who “did a lot for us and is still doing a lot for us.”

Yeounwoo L. (Ruby)

Yeounwoo L. (Ruby) is a 2023 graduate. During her time at OWIS, she served as a school representative and had the opportunity to meet Michelle Obama in person. “Michelle Obama had always been someone I deeply admired, and to see her speak with so much passion on some challenging topics solidified my respect, admiration and fondness for her,” Ruby says. “Her genuine advice and encouragement became a huge motivation and inspiration for me to continue working hard for my goals.” Ruby plans to pursue a degree in the medical field.
